Walking into a martial arts school as an adult beginner takes nerve. You picture twenty-year-olds throwing spinning kicks and wonder where you fit.
Here is the truth: our adult classes are full of parents, nurses, contractors, retirees and cops. Most started with zero experience.
Your first month, week by week
- Week 1: stance, movement, basic strikes and falling safely
- Week 2: first escapes from grabs and chokes
- Week 3: putting combinations together on pads
- Week 4: you notice better sleep, less stress and more energy
Why adults stay
- A workout that does not feel like a chore
- Real self-defense taught by a 20-year NYPD veteran
- Stress relief after work
- A community that knows your name
Is it too late at 50?
Master Curry began training in 1971 and is still on the mat. Jujutsu is built on leverage, not youth. Instructors adjust every drill to your body.
Questions adults ask
Will I get hurt?
Safety comes first. Beginners never spar on day one, and partners work with control.
Can I train with my kids?
Many parents train while their kids are in kids classes. Ask about scheduling.
